SORA – A motion aimed at protecting the future of Sora Calcio and ensuring the club’s sporting title remains permanently linked to the city has been formally submitted to the Lazio Regional Council by the Italy’s Five Star Movement (Movimento 5 Stelle, M5S). The announcement was made by regional councillor Loreto Marcelli, who described the club as a historic asset and an important part of the identity of the local community.
Regional initiative to protect Sora Calcio
According to Marcelli, the motion calls on the Lazio regional government to open discussions with the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), the National Amateur League (LND) and local institutions in order to identify measures capable of guaranteeing the long-term permanence of Sora Calcio’s sporting title in the city.
The initiative comes at a time of concern among supporters and residents regarding the future of the club, one of the most recognisable football institutions in southern Lazio.
Support for youth development
Beyond safeguarding the club’s sporting title, the proposal also seeks greater regional support for youth football programmes. The motion urges the regional administration to consider using dedicated funding to help preserve historic football clubs across Lazio and strengthen grassroots sporting activities.
“Sora Calcio is a historic and identity-defining institution with more than one hundred years of history,” Marcelli said. “Protecting this heritage means defending a collective value that belongs to supporters, families and young athletes.”
More than a football club
Founded more than a century ago, Sora Calcio has long represented an important sporting and social reference point for the city and the wider province of Frosinone.
The motion underlines the need for public institutions to play an active role in preserving sporting traditions and supporting clubs that contribute to the social and cultural fabric of local communities.
The proposal will now be examined by the relevant regional authorities as discussions continue over the future of one of Lazio’s historic football clubs.
