SORA – The historic neighborhood of Cancéglie, one of the oldest districts of Sora, is preparing to celebrate the feast of Saint John the Baptist, a religious tradition that continues to unite generations of residents and worshippers. The celebrations, organized by the Parish of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle, will take place on June 23 and 24 with a program centered on prayer, Holy Masses, and the traditional procession through the streets of the neighborhood.
A tradition rooted in the neighborhood’s history
As reported by Voce Cristiana, the feast of Saint John the Baptist remains one of the most important moments in the religious life of Cancéglie, a neighborhood that has preserved its spiritual and cultural identity over the years. The annual celebration represents an opportunity for residents to renew their devotion while strengthening the sense of community that characterizes the district.
In the days leading up to the feast, parishioners have taken part in a preparatory triduum featuring the recitation of the Holy Rosary and the celebration of Holy Mass, creating a period of reflection ahead of the solemnity.
The procession through the streets of Cancéglie
The main event is scheduled for the evening of June 23. Following the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. and Holy Mass at 6:30 p.m., the statue of Saint John the Baptist will be carried in procession through the streets of the neighborhood.
The religious procession will be accompanied by the Città di Alvito Band, continuing a tradition that attracts the participation of local families and residents who gather each year to honor the patron saint.
Celebrations on the feast day
On June 24, the liturgical feast of Saint John the Baptist, several Masses will be celebrated throughout the morning at 7:30 a.m., 8:15 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m., and 11 a.m.
The celebrations will continue in the evening with the Holy Rosary at 6 p.m. and Holy Mass at 6:30 p.m., concluding the two-day religious program organized by the Parish of Saint Bartholomew the Apostle, led by Monsignor Donato Piacentini.
For the residents of Cancéglie, the feast remains not only a religious observance but also an important expression of the neighborhood’s identity and traditions within the city of Sora.
